Jodhpur & Jaisalmer

Day-by-Day Itinerary

Day 1 Arrival in Jodhpur & Evening Sightseeing Tour

Upon arrival at Jodhpur Airport or Railway Station, we will pick you up and transfer you to your hotel. After a short refreshment, begin your evening sightseeing tour of the Blue City.

Mehrangarh Fort
Clock Tower & Local Markets
icon
Mehrangarh Fort

Towering 120 metres above the city on a sheer sandstone cliff, Mehrangarh is one of India's largest, best-preserved, and most visually overwhelming forts. Founded by Rao Jodha in 1459 CE, its colossal walls and grand gateways have remained unconquered throughout history. The fort museum houses extraordinary royal artefacts — ornate palanquins, elephant howdahs, Rajput armour, and exquisite miniature paintings. After dark, the illuminated fort blazing above the blue city is a sight that stays with visitors for a lifetime.

icon
Clock Tower & Local Markets

The iconic Ghanta Ghar (Clock Tower) is the beating heart of Jodhpur's old city and the anchor of the lively Sardar Market. As evening settles in, the narrow lanes come alive with vendors selling aromatic Rajasthani spice blends, hand-crafted silver jewellery, traditional leather jootis, and Bandhej tie-dye textiles. Street food stalls offer the city's famous Mirchi Bada and Mawa Kachori — the perfect evening welcome to Jodhpur.

Stay overnight in Jodhpur

Day 2 Full-Day Exploration of Jodhpur City

After breakfast, proceed to visit the following places:

Umaid Bhawan Palace Museum
Jaswant Thada
Vintage Car Museum
icon
Umaid Bhawan Palace Museum

Among the world's largest private residences, Umaid Bhawan Palace is simultaneously a royal family home, a celebrated luxury heritage hotel, and a richly curated museum. Its Art Deco interiors — rare in the context of Indian palace architecture — are complemented by exhibits of ceremonial royal photographs, Rathore dynasty regalia, period furniture, hunting trophies, and personal artefacts that bring the story of 20th-century princely Jodhpur to life in compelling detail.

icon
Jaswant Thada

Often called the Taj Mahal of Marwar, this exquisitely crafted white marble cenotaph was erected in 1899 CE in honour of the wise and progressive Maharaja Jaswant Singh II. Thin marble panels, when lit by afternoon sun, emit a luminous golden-white glow of extraordinary beauty. Set in a peaceful garden with Mehrangarh Fort rising dramatically behind it, Jaswant Thada is one of Jodhpur's most serene and most photographed landmarks.

icon
Vintage Car Museum

Housed within the Umaid Bhawan Palace complex, this remarkable museum presents the prized royal automobile fleet of the Jodhpur rulers — gleaming Rolls-Royces, stately Bentleys, a classic Mercedes-Benz, vintage military jeeps, and rare collector vehicles. Each car carries a story of royal ceremony, state visits, and the glamour of princely Rajasthan. An absolute delight for history lovers, vintage vehicle enthusiasts, and photographers.

Day 3 Jodhpur to Jaisalmer

After breakfast, head towards Jaisalmer. On reaching, complete your hotel check-in and start exploring the city.

Gadisar Lake
Vyas Chhatri
icon
Gadisar Lake

Built in 1367 CE by Maharawal Gadsi Singh as Jaisalmer's primary rainwater reservoir, Gadisar Lake is a serene and historically significant body of water on the southern edge of the city. Its ghats are lined with small shrines, pavilions, and the ornate Tilon Ki Pol gateway. Migratory birds flock to its waters in the cooler months, and paddleboats are available. In the late afternoon, the golden reflection of sandstone temples and Jaisalmer Fort shimmering on the lake's surface is one of the desert city's most beautiful sights.

icon
Vyas Chhatri

Perched on a rocky hillock on the northeastern edge of Jaisalmer, Vyas Chhatri is a cluster of ornate sandstone cenotaphs (chhatris) built in honour of the Vyas Brahmin community, who served as astrologers and advisors to the Jaisalmer royal court. The elevated hilltop setting offers one of the finest panoramic views of Jaisalmer Fort and the golden city spreading beneath the desert sky — particularly magnificent at sunset. A peaceful and often uncrowded alternative viewpoint in Jaisalmer.

Stay overnight in Jaisalmer

Day 4 Full-Day Jaisalmer Exploration

After breakfast, proceed to visit the following places:

Jaisalmer Fort (Sonar Quila)
Patwon ki Haveli
Jain Temples inside the Fort
Nathmal ki Haveli
icon
Jaisalmer Fort (Sonar Quila)

A UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the largest fully intact and inhabited fort-cities in the world, Jaisalmer Fort — known as Sonar Quila (Golden Fort) — was founded in 1156 CE by Maharawal Jaisal Singh on the Trikuta Hill. Its 99 bastions, massive stone ramparts, and four elaborately decorated gateways enclose a self-contained city of palaces, Jain temples, havelis, wells, and shops. Approximately 3,000 people continue to live within the fort today — a remarkable living heritage. The royal palace (Raj Mahal) inside offers superb city and desert views from its upper terraces. Walking its narrow lanes at golden hour is an experience unlike any other in Rajasthan.

icon
Patwon ki Haveli

The grandest and most celebrated haveli in Jaisalmer, Patwon ki Haveli is actually a cluster of five interconnected mansions built between 1800 and 1860 CE by the wealthy Patwa merchant family. Its towering sandstone facade is a breathtaking tapestry of delicate jali screens, carved brackets, ornamental arches, and floral friezes — considered one of the finest examples of Rajasthani merchant architecture in existence. The interiors house a museum of period furniture, miniature paintings, and the domestic artefacts of prosperous 19th-century Jaisalmer trading life.

icon
Jain Temples inside the Fort

Within the walls of Jaisalmer Fort lie a cluster of seven exquisitely carved Jain temples built between the 12th and 16th centuries CE, dedicated to various Tirthankaras of Jainism. These sandstone temples are renowned for their intricate carvings of celestial beings, decorative pillars, and ornamental toranas that rival the marble temples of Ranakpur and Dilwara in their artistic complexity. The Chandraprabhu temple and Rishabhadeva temple are the most celebrated. A remarkable repository of medieval Jain religious art in a living desert fort.

icon
Nathmal ki Haveli

Built in 1885 CE as the official residence of Prime Minister Diwan Mohata Nathmal during the reign of Maharawal Berisal Singh, Nathmal ki Haveli is celebrated for its uniquely asymmetrical facade — the left and right halves were carved simultaneously by two brother craftsmen, resulting in a design that is near-identical yet subtly different on each side. Its intricate yellow sandstone carvings include depictions of elephants, horses, soldiers, and even early locomotives — a charming record of the Rajasthani craftsman's encounter with the modern world.

Overnight stay at a luxury desert camp surrounded by the stars.

Day 5 Jaisalmer Departure

After breakfast, complete your check-out from the desert camp and visit the following sites before leaving:

Lodhurva (Lodurva)
Amar Sagar
Kuldhara Village
Bada Bagh
icon
Lodhurva (Lodurva)

Located approximately 15 km northwest of Jaisalmer, Lodhurva was the ancient capital of the Bhati Rajput clan before Jaisalmer was founded in 1156 CE. Once a prosperous city, it was sacked and largely destroyed by Mahmud of Ghazni's raids in the 11th century. Today its principal attraction is a beautifully restored Jain temple complex featuring an ornate torana gateway, intricate sandstone carvings, and a large Kalpa Vriksha (divine wish-fulfilling tree) sculpture. The site retains an atmosphere of profound antiquity and spiritual calm.

icon
Amar Sagar

Just 5 km from Jaisalmer, Amar Sagar is a peaceful artificial lake built by Maharawal Amar Singh in the 17th century as a pleasure resort. Its banks are dotted with the remains of terraced gardens, small temples, and a partially restored Jain temple of considerable beauty. The lake fills during the monsoon and provides a tranquil picnic setting amid Thar desert scenery — a lovely and often uncrowded complement to the busier fort sites.

icon
Kuldhara Village

One of Rajasthan's most evocative and mysterious abandoned settlements, Kuldhara is a ghost village located 18 km southwest of Jaisalmer. Founded in the 13th century CE, the village was home to the prosperous Paliwal Brahmin community for nearly 500 years until one night in 1825 when all 1,500 inhabitants vanished without trace — according to legend, to escape the oppressive demands of the local administrator Salim Singh. The ruins of the empty stone houses, wells, and village temples stand silent and undisturbed to this day, preserved as a heritage site and a compelling reminder of the human stories embedded in Rajasthan's desert landscape.

icon
Bada Bagh

Meaning 'Big Garden', Bada Bagh is a garden complex 6 km north of Jaisalmer containing a series of royal chhatris (cenotaphs) built by successive Maharawals of Jaisalmer from the early 16th century onwards. Set against an open desert backdrop, the rows of finely carved sandstone pavilions with equestrian statues of the departed rulers create an atmosphere of serene grandeur. The golden-hour light falling on these cenotaphs just before departure is one of Jaisalmer's most treasured photographic opportunities.

In the afternoon, proceed to Jaisalmer Railway Station or Airport for your onward travel, as your tour comes to an end with unforgettable desert and fort experiences.
